Uganda elections 2011-Museveni wins..

The Electoral Commission declares President Museveni victor of Uganda’s Friday presidential ballot, winning with 68.38 per cent of 8, 272, 760 total votes. Mr Museveni obtained 5, 428, 369 votes, Electoral Commission chairman, Eng. Badru Kiggundu says.

“The Commission declares Yoweri Kaguta Museveni President elect of the Republic of Uganda,” says Eng. Kiggundu while announcing the final results at Namboole stadium today.

The results, however, excludes tallies from 117 polling stations whose results the Commissions says it is yet to receive. Eng. Kiggundu says they declared the incomplete results to beat the 48 hour constitutional, and so far what they received is more than the threshold tallies to make the declarations.

Inter-Party Cooperation flag bearer, Dr Kizza Besigye, has obtained 2, 064, 963 (representing 26%) votes while Democratic Party’s Norbert Mao is in third position polling 147, 708 votes.

Mr Museveni’s win gives him another five year elective term, setting him on course to lead Uganda for a cumulative 30 years since 1986.

Blogger’s opinion: Developing countries leaders must know the responsibilities and honor that the citizens have bestowed in them. It’s no doubt they know accountability is a must for they were put in office by the so called people power. It’s therefore clear that, the same people who have the right and power to remove irresponsible leaders out of office.

In essence being in office as a representative of the people does not mean the time to represent the family, friends and yourself. But working diligently to represent fully the people in all aspects of life; I. e social, political, economical, technological and cultural aspects that could foster the national development in general.

NB: I wish constitutions had acts that allow electing leaders ‘IN’ and ‘OUT’ of office. This means irresponsible leaders, power mongers, puppets and corrupt leaders could have been voted out of office in an orderly, democratic and peaceful means. Easy!

Mubaraka aachia ngazi leo..
