Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

Overview

Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programmes in Hong Kong's institutions.

Eligibility

Those who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in Hong Kong institutions funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

The Fellowship

The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a period of three years. About 135 PhD Fellowships will be awarded each academic year1. For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen institutions. For details, please contact the institutions concerned directly.

1 Academic year in Hong Kong normally starts in September.

Selection Panels

Shortlisted applications, subject to their areas of studies, will be reviewed by one of the two HKPF Selection Panels with experts in the relevant broad areas -- one for science, medicine, engineering and technology and another one for humanities, social science and business studies.


Selection Criteria

While the academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account, but is not limited to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates:

Academic excellence;
Research ability and potential;
Communication, and interpersonal skills; and
Leadership abilities.
Application Process

Applicants may choose up to two programmes in one or two institutions for PhD study in their HKPFS applications. They are also required to submit application(s) for PhD admission to the relevant institution(s) directly for their selected programme(s). Applicants are therefore required to fully comply with the admission requirements of their selected institutions and programmes. The HKPFS 2011/12 will call for applications in September 2010. Detailed arrangements for the application process will be announced later.

In the year 2004 the federal government of Nigeria through the ministry of finance awarded contracts estimated to the tuneof seventeen million united states dollars while My self and other colleagues in the (NNPC) sumbmitted receipt for the tune of $28 million increase or inflate the amount to twenty eight million united states dollars) to the Nigerian national petroleumco-operation (NNPC) as a joint venture with a foreign partner, alveco oil of which the said contract have been
implemented and carried out with a total amount of ($17 million) seventeen million united states dollars) leaving behind the balance of ($11 million)eleven million united statesdollars) in excess have been deposited in a security account deposited (sad)here in Nigeria.

However, to make fortune out of this opportunity,
by virtue of our position as civil servants and members of the (NNPC), we cannot acquire this fund in our name. This is because as top civil servants, we are not
allowed by law of the land to own or operate foreign bank accounts outside
our country for now.

And there is the need to transfer this fund to a reliable account. It is
therefore on this note that i have been delegated as a matter of trust by
my colleagues, to look for an overseas partner in whose account we would
transfer the fund hence the reason for this mail.

World Cup Excuse to cheating...

Cheating is not an easy task as some people would think.As such cheating is even harder when the person you intend to cheat knows better than you (Brave). To me it is ridiculous cheating unnecessarily to your beloved one.And the funniest thing is, You call him/her the one and only literally in essence. Why literally? the reason is obvious you don't mean what you said earlier. Wonderful enough big events including World Cup seems to be used as an excuse
for cheating to couples, so Abiria chunga mzigo wako!

If you look at this cartoon, you will definitely know the position of yours in line with cheating and lying.I don't want to go into details but I hope everyone knows 'cheating' has been there since, the only difference between now and them days back is basicly the so called globaliziation.With the introduction of new technologies including Mobile phones, internets the World has now been made smaller than before.

It is said the world is as small as a village and the increased mobility of people and the means of communications has over time fostered the situation. Taking mobile phones as an example you can contact the person instantly based on the network coverage locally/internationally.

Phones in general have both merits and demerits depending on the usage.Mobile phones for example are good to cover unpleasant behaviour including cheating as seen in the cartoon hereunder. Imagine you make call to a person and he/she answers like this ''sorry dear i'm so sleepy i can't speak clearly'' At the very same minute you hear this,''please two pints of VODKA for me and my love'' In essence this is what exactly happens in this cartoon, You all watch the same match!! why different teams????? Egypt is not among the teams in the 2010 World Cup! shame on you kama upo lol! hapo usikute hallo na mbona sikusikii nyingi mpaka basi. I call it failed cheating!.

Kama haitoshi Now for those who are married, they think land line/home phones are better than mobiles because you've to be there (Home) in order to pick up the phone.So with the introduction of phones cheating has seemingly spotted to have increased due to easy and increased commuincations/interactions which is true but that shouldn't be a point to say cheating has just began.

It is just that, now is easy to reach the person/identify and finally know if there is any cheating going on or about to happen if the person is not smart enough though it is not always the case since there is no perfect being, no one is smart all days, that means one day you will fall prey (Caught) so stop cheating!

2 doctoral studentships in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London - Department of Psychology (UK)

Overview
Two doctoral studentships funded by the European Research Council (ERC) are available from September 2010 in the Department of Psychology, Goldsmiths, University of London. You can apply for either a 1+3-year (Masters and PhD) or a 3-year doctoral programme. You will work under the supervision of Dr Andy Bremner, as part of a research team funded by a 5-year ERC grant, ‘HEMSDEV: An Investigation of the Construction of Human Embodied Multisensory Experience in Infancy and Early Childhood', and will have access to, and training in, both behavioural and neurophysiological (ERP) methods.

Allowance

A stipend of £19,250 per annum will be provided. You will be expected to pay your own university fees (£3,500 per annum).

Qualifications

Applicants for a 1+3 studentship should have a good first degree (1st class, high 2:1, or equivalent) in Psychology or a closely allied discipline. Applicants for a 3-year doctorate will normally be expected to hold a Master's degree in an area related to Psychology. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude and motivation to work in a research team, undertaking both collaborative and individual research projects in a scientifically rigorous way. We are also looking for a candidate who will be able to work with infants, children and parents, present research at national and international scientific meetings, and submit research manuscripts for publication on a regular basis.
